Lynn Preble, President Best Practices, News & Events, President's Message, State Convention

Are you ready to P.L.A.Y.? I know it is still summer break for most of you, but the time is quickly approaching for all of us to return to the profession we love! I hope you all had a restful and rejuvenating break and found some time to get meaningful professional development. Arizona Health and Physical Education has multiple opportunities coming up for you to receive very relevant professional development.

Starting with August 18 in Tucson for Pushing the Boundaries Tucson. We have the ever energetic and highly entertaining John Jones presenting his instant games and activities. I know you all will find something to take back and use in your classroom instantly. Please check out his website  http://johnjonespe.com . John will present in the morning, then we will have a lunch (provided)break with a terrific speaker on creating inclusive spaces in physical education . Then John will finish the afternoon with a technology session that will be sure to astound you! John has put all his Quick Games into a book that will be available to purchase.

Our second opportunity for meaningful PD is August 25 in Prescott for Pushing the Boundaries Prescott. We will have US Games/OPEN Curriculum presenting their FREE curriculum and the best way to implement it within your school, and if you are like Chandler, within your district. US Games/OPEN will also be presenting at our State Convention in October with even more awesome information. Please click the link below to view the wide variety of resources from OPEN.

Our State Convention is quickly approaching. Our Convention Team has been hard at work bringing you some of the best speakers and sessions from all over the country and world. The schedule is completely full with 51 sessions! We are again using the Sched website for our digital program. We think it is a very good way to present all of our information and sessions and it is a very easy to navigate. You can access it either by phone or computer. You can save it on your phone home screen for quick access. Once you are on the site you can set your own schedule, access resources and handouts from each session and complete a review of sessions you attend. It also gives you an option to print the schedule if you want a hard copy. Please know that on occasions sessions may change for various reasons. That is another benefit to Sched, we can instantly make changes that you can see. All sessions will also be listed outside each room so you can always check there as well.  Please click on the following link to access the full schedule. https://2018arizonahealthandphysicaleduc.sched.com/

Our Wednesday keynote speaker is Dr. Dean Kriellaars, one of the foremost experts on physical literacy. Here is a short clip from Dr. Kriellaars on the connection of physical education to physical literacy. https://youtu.be/XYaghYWOBGw?list=PLOVkSLVzfxZ4yzjTqdvVcU-OwlJvXlPxI  You will come away inspired from this keynote.

The Robert Pangrazi Scholar Lecture will be held on Thursday, features former ASU student, Dr. Randy Nichols who now teaches at Slippery Rock University.

Our goal is to provide our members with meaningful professional development. If you need help in convincing your principal that it is crucial for you to go, please use the justification toolkit from SHAPE America. You can customize it for your needs.  https://convention.shapeamerica.org/404.aspx?aspxerrorpath=/…/Justification%20Toolkit.aspx
