 Committee Information

Below is basic information on the committees that represent Arizona Health and Physical Education. Thank you for all of your work and dedication to our profession. The underlying theme for committees is “All Hands On Deck” and that is very important in our success and for our future.

SHAPE America – National Association in which Arizona is an affiliate. SHAPE America has no jurisdiction over any state. http://shapeamerica.org

SHAPE Arizona – Corporate name for our Association, formerly known as Arizona Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance. Where SHAPE in SHAPE America stands for the Society of Health and Physical Educators, ours has no meaning. SHAPE Arizona is only used for financial purposes and reported annually to the Arizona Corporation Commission. This name is not published or used on a regular basis.

Arizona Health and Physical Education. Listed with the Arizona Secretary of State as doing business as or(DBA). This is our working name and should be spelled out when possible. It states who we are and what we do. Using AzHPE is ok when working within our Association and with Members, however, when trying to promote our Association, using the full name is preferred. Advocacy Committee – Working with State and National leaders to promote, fund and advance Health and Physical Education. Manages the Advocacy Web Page. Committee Chair is Josh Meibos of the Arizona K12 Center

Membership Committee– Work with and recruit members to be part of the Arizona Health and Physical Education Association. This committee also manages the Membership Portal. Committee Chair is Kyle Gallas of Weinberg Gifted Academy

Best Practices – Identifies and promotes best practices and current research in both Health and Physical Education throughout the year. Manages the Best Practices Web Page. Committee chair is Tim Warnock of Queen Creek Unified School District and Warnock Speaks. 

Partnership Committee – Identifies and works with partners, both in-kind and financial, that understand our mission and will work with us throughout the year. A partner must be approved by the board. Manages Partnership Web Page. Committee Chair is Lance Dunlop of Tempe Elementary School District

Marketing/Public Relations Committee – Promotes who we are and what we do. Promotes the Association Board, Members, Events and Activities through all media for Arizona Health and Physical Education. Develops programs and promotions that will help individuals in our professions as well as the public know the benefits of working with Arizona Health and Physical Education.  Creates Press Release for major events to help promote the positive image of our organization to the public. Develop a Media Guide with the Public Relations Committee and manages Marketing Web Page. Committee Chair is Kelly Richardson of Tempe Elementary School District

Adapted Physical Education -The Adapted Physical Education Committee of Arizona Health and Physical Education advocates for equitable, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate physical education opportunities for students with disabilities. The committee provides leadership, resources, and professional development to support educators in delivering high-quality adapted physical education programs across Arizona schools. Through collaboration and advocacy, the committee works to ensure all students achieve physical literacy and enjoy lifelong physical activity. Committee Chair is Leo Dorantes of Mesa Public Schools. 

Arizona Health and Physical Education is ALWAYS looking for more teachers interested in becoming involved in our organization.
