On February 14, 2018, Protecting Young Victims from Sexual Abuse and Safe Sport Authorization Act of 2017 was signed into law. Most notably, the law mandates that national governing bodies report sexual abuse allegations to local law enforcement and sanctions the U.S. Center for SafeSport to ensure compliance and investigate complaints.
We applaud the bravery of all the athletes who have spoken out about the abuse they faced in order to illuminate the need for this legislation; and, we applaud the teamwork of the advocates and lawmakers who ensured its passage.
