Come to “SHAPE UP Nashville – A Day of Play” Saturday, March 24, Free Admission

RESTON, VA, February 23, 2018 — Mark your calendars for Saturday, March 24, 10 am – 3 pm, when SHAPE America – Society of Health and Physical Educators and Shape Up US co-host “SHAPE UP Nashville – A Day of Play.”  The free health and wellness expo, to be held at the Downtown YMCA, 1000 Church Street, is the finale of SHAPE America’s 133rd National Convention & Expo that week at the Music City Center. Open free of charge to the public, the expo is a celebration of 50 Million Strong, SHAPE America’s commitment to putting all children on the path to health and physical literacy through effective health and physical education programs.

SHAPE UP Nashville is designed to promote wellness, create awareness and educate the public about prevention of heart disease, while providing a day of fun for the entire family. Each exhibitor offers an activity for those who attend the event, providing a variety of activities. Thousands of participants will attend this all-day event, which will include fitness contests, games, cooking demos, food tastings, arts and crafts, inflatables, healthy giveaways, face painting, prizes and much more.

According to SHAPE America Chief Executive Officer Stephanie Morris, “SHAPE America’s vision is a nation where all children are prepared to lead healthy, physically active lives. What could be better than inviting the families of greater Nashville to come together to enjoy a day of play for all ages.”

 The SHAPE America National Convention, held in partnership with SHAPE America Southern District and Tennessee Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance, kicks off Tuesday, March 20 with pre-conference professional development workshops. The week’s activities include a general session each day, 300 program sessions for health and physical educators and hundreds of exhibitors featuring hundreds of the latest educational and fitness products and services. Among the keynote presenters will be internationally known educator Stephen Ritz, Olympic gold medalist Benita Fitzgerald Mosley who is now CEO of the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation USA, and the legendary Dr. Kenneth Cooper, the “Father of Aerobics,” and founder of The Cooper institute in Dallas, Texas. University of Tennessee Director of Athletics Emeritus Joan Cronan will be inducted into SHAPE America’s Hall of Fame at the banquet Friday evening.
