Mike Kuczala, one of our keynote speakers in 2023 has just released his 5th book – “Move More, Learn More! Harnessing the Brain-Body Connection in Early Childhood” with Columbia University’s Teachers College Press. He partnered with Phoenix’s own Dr. Lynne Kenney and about a dozen other early childhood/movement specialists from around the world to create this transformative project. Two chapters (specifically regarding creating meaning in physical activity and promoting social connections) are written by Physical Education specialists. The book was written to highlight the ever-growing body of research informing early childhood teachers, clinicians, parents, and care-givers about the critical nature of physical activity during this time in a child’s life. It highlights neuroplasticity, sensory motor and social skills, music and rhythmic interventions for self-regulation, executive function, reading skills, handwriting, and neurodivergent learners. Two chapters are written specifically for the physical education space. Those two chapters are titled Promoting Social Connections through Group Activities, and Creating Meaningful Movement Experiences Before, During, and After School.
