Greetings all Arizona Health and Physical Education members,

It is truly hard to believe it is already Summer! I mean we just finished celebrating the New Year a few days ago, right?! I guess it’s true when they say ‘time flies when you’re having fun’.

In all seriousness, this school year has not only been a challenge for all teachers, but it has also been a sign of our resilience, our dedication to our students, and our ability to think ‘outside the box’. We have had to teach virtual lessons, in-person lessons while wearing a mask, and let’s not forget trying to teach virtual and in-person students at the same time! But there is light at the end of the tunnel. It’s Summer!

As the current school year has come to a close, your Arizona Health and Physical Education board and committee members are already looking to next November in the hope that we can put on a fabulous, out of this world, in-person convention at the Phoenix Convention Center with Dr. Robert Pangrazi as our Keynote Speaker!

The date for the convention is November 2-4th, 2021 and you all will have access to the Justification Toolkit to attend the Arizona Health and Physical Education Convention. This toolkit will have all the information you need to make the case to attend, including a justification letter to send to your administrator. More information on the upcoming convention will be available soon, and I want to encourage you to think about presenting this year. Maybe you have a really cool unit you’d like to share, or maybe you have awesome ideas for fun, creative warm-ups, or maybe you’d like to share your experiences with teaching health. Whatever it is, it’s worth sharing!

I am hoping everyone will have the opportunity to take a breath, take a vacation and take some much-deserved time with your loved ones. I for one am traveling to Oakland, CA to see my mom who will be 90 years old and I have not been able to see her since last February! Needless to say, I am super excited!

Be well and stay safe!

Sincerely,

Jennifer Houston
