Juneteenth is a federal holiday that commemorates the anniversary of the June 19, 1865, announcement from a Union Army general proclaiming freedom for enslaved people in Texas. Here, Jessica Salow, ASU’s assistant archivist of Black Collections, talks about the ASU Library’s upcoming Juneteenth celebration and the meaning of the holiday.
